The following is a compiled list from countless teachers regarding their observations of low Algebra 2 skills in the order from most to least popular answers:

  1. How to factor polynomials completely (GCF, by grouping, binomials, and AC method for both cases: a=1 and a NOT 1)
  2. Operations with fractions
  3. Solve multi step linear equations
  4. Integer operations & multiplication table
  5. Quadratic Formula for solving quadratic equations
  6. Order of Operations of integers using rules to simplify algebra expressions, especially with exponents and brackets

7. Identify the basic type of parent functions based on the equation or graph. Example: Which is linear, quadratic, cubic, exponential, etc.?

8. Multiplying fractions with also cross-simplifying (shortcut) and with whole numbers, different denominators, same denominator and improper fractions

9. Squaring a binomial (and knowing its definition or meaning)

10. Computations/evaluations with polynomials

11. Operations with rational expressions (add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions)

12. Graphing linear and quadratic polynomial functions

13. Familiarity with the coordinate grid systems

14. Solve a system of equations and inequalities (including infinite and no solutions)

15. Simplify radical expressions (and with imaginary numbers)

16. Complete the square steps (solving a quadratic equation using complete the square method, and especially where the leading coefficient is not 1)

17. Reading math notation such as f(x), etc.
